Travel | Hidden Waterfall Cafe | Bologna, Italy

If you are in Bologna, be sure not to miss this little gem of today's Throwback Thursday. Apparently not a lot of people know it, and less Bolognaise know it than the tourists. Bologna has a hidden world of canals beneath its pavements and roads, and this is one of the few places where you can reveal its hidden water world. The cafe itself is beautifully decorated with a grand piano inside with one night a week holding an "Open Piano" night inviting people to play on this instrument and entertain everybody. Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures of the inside because taking photos even without the flash is forbidden inside.

However, if you walk on past the grand piano, there is a door leading to a balcony, and part of the canal is revealed. What's even more amazing is the waterfall that you can hear and see as you eat a pastry and drink some juice making it feel like you're in the middle of Venice.

The balcony itself is relatively small, seating only about 10 people, if that but it's so quaint, and unusual, but worth a visit. Definitely try and get a table outside! They stock many juices ranging from green apple to peach to apricot and claim they stock every type of juice. Note: I advise you to not try and order tropical or mango juice. They don't stock these which I learnt this the hard way! I finally settled on peach which was really nice.

Address: Caffè Opera e Tulipani, via Alessandrini 7, Bologna, Italy
