House of Tilbury | Charlotte Tilbury Store | Covent Garden

Ask any beauty blogger what beauty brands hit the top of their wishlist and chances are Charlotte Tilbury features quite prominently. I personally only heard about Charlotte Tilbury quite recently, mainly thanks to YouTube videos praising her Pillow Talk lip liner and her lipstick line highly as well as seeing her beauty stand at Selfridges. So when Charlotte Tilbury announced she was opening a standalone store in the heart of London in Covent Garden, I had to of course pop along and check the store out.
It's been opened in London since late November 2015 after much anticipation and hype. I initially visited on 29 November 2015 but went back again recently to take photos for you lovely readers :)

Step over the threshold into the store and you're immediately surrounded by mirrors and lights. Lots of mirrors and lights with the decor tastefully decked out in art deco style. There's plush feathers above the mirrors, chandeliers above your head and velvet seats downstairs. While a little tight for space upstairs, you are surrounded by every offering in the Charlotte Tilbury line from lipsticks to foundation, blushers to mascara and everything else in between.

Near enough everything has a tester version and I spent far too long by the lipstick section ending with a hand full of swatches deliberating between Bitch Perfect (a light muted pink) or Hepburn Honey (a brownish nude). The store is not like any other standalone make up shop (such as Burberry, Chanel or Dior which are only a few minutes walk away) - it oozes glamour, and dare I say.. vintage glamour? It feels like I've walked into the dressing room of legendary screen sirens such as Elizabeth Taylor or Marilyn Monroe, and I think that's the image Charlotte herself wanted to portray - and if so, she's pretty much got it spot on.

Spread over two floors, downstairs is led by a grand staircase with an art deco balustrade sweeping you to an intimate make up area. Here you can choose to have one of Charlotte's iconic ten looks or have an one hour make up lesson sat upon one of seven vanity areas, complete with art deco mirrors, velvet high chairs and mirrored cabinets.

Despite the vintage glamour, House of Tilbury is definitely up to speed with the technology of the 21st Century. There's iPads here and there to watch her YouTube tutorials, contactless payments on cards is very much available and payments are done on the spot eliminating the need of several till points allowing Tilbury to maximise premium retail space on what she knows and does best - make up.

If you love Charlotte Tilbury make up and you're in London, I highly recommending visiting the store.

You'll probably end up leaving with something like I did.
