Kew Gardens Orchid Exhibition

Kew Gardens have just finished their latest exhibition about Orchids for 2016, and I had the great pleasure of visiting it while it was on. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to compose this post in time before it actually ended, but the flowers and subsequent photos are far too beautiful to not share with you all. There were some incredible plants there, a wonderful array of colours and such an incredible exhibition. Well, anything involving flowers is sure to win over a woman's heart right?

Both Instagram and twitter were full of beautiful amateur and professional photos using the hashtag #kewgardens throughout the exhibition, and what I didn't quite expect was the scale of the exhibition. Held in the Princess of Wales conservatory within Kew Gardens (closest entrance is Victoria Gate, a short walk away from Kew Gardens underground station (District Line) and Kew Bridge station), the people behind the exhibition made full use of the available area. The majority was taken up by the colourful orchids exhibition, but interestingly there was a section marked out for desert plants (think cactus galore) as well as ferns which showcased a variety of plant habitats worldwide.

There was no right or wrong way around the exhibition, and there was no clear set path so you was allowed to wander wherever you see fit. Up to the arches to explore the canopy and view from above? Or wander down to the aquarium to spot a piranha or a poison dart frog? The beauty was getting "lost" within the conservatory which meant you probably saw the same thing a couple of times, but everywhere you looked, something new was to be found.

Orchids 2016 was in its second year at Kew running between 6 February to 6 March 2016, and to celebrate carnival season in Brazil which runs throughout February, the organisers decided to fill the conservatory with plants from Brazil bringing an essence of that vibrant atmosphere to London. And it did. There was Brazilian music playing, an explosion of colour everywhere you look and the most tropical plants you ever laid eyes on. Absolutely incredible.

I've rambled on for far too long now, I'll let the pictures do the talking.
