View From The Top: Christiansborg Palace, Denmark

I love to travel exploring new places, eating new cuisines and understanding new cultures. But the thing that I love most when I travel is when I can do it on a budget.. or for free! One of the attractions I enjoyed most during my recent trip to Copenhagen from the view from the top of Christiansborg Palace. Yes, you go to the tower of a PALACE. And for free! How many places around the world can boast that?
Located conveniently in city centre, and relatively easy to find (look for a large green statue of a person riding a horse), I made sure not to miss this attraction while in Copenhagen. In the morning, there was a real possibility I was going to miss it because the town was covered in a thick fog which meant I may not get the view I was after. Luckily, by mid afternoon it cleared up making way to bright blue skies and sunshine and I got my views!

Offering a 360 degree view of Copenhagen, and with a lift that takes you most of the height, this is something I recommend if the weather is good! Each direction offers something new to see and there is a panel labelling what the landmarks are. You may be lucky and see the bridge that connects Copenhagen, Denmark with Malmo, Sweden!

Because it is free, expect to wait a little bit but make friends with others in the queue! On either side of us happened to be two American girls - one from Brown University studying in Copenhagen for a semester, and the other from University of South Carolina studying in Milan for a semester and like us, was visiting Copenhagen for the weekend! Starting up a conversation with them exchanging experiences of travelling meant the queue went that little bit quicker which is always a good thing!

Be prepared for airport style security when you first enter (remove jackets/computers/watches.. etc) and then hop into a lift to the first part. The palace also holds a restaurant so you can also reserve a table in advance with your visit. Into the second lift gets you the top pretty much - you've just got to walk up about 15 to 20 steps and that's it!

The view of Copenhagen city centre awaits you, and this is what you get treated to..
